IMT 102 Word Processing

This course is designed to develop the basic and intermediate skills necessary to produce quality professional and academic documents by inputting data through the use of a keyboard and exploring the practice and theory of word processing.  Students will learn document formatting including the creation of first and final drafts of letters, memorandums and reports.  Concepts learned include keying, modifying, saving, and printing a document; using text attributes and document formatting features; blocking, collecting, copying and moving text; using a spell check and the thesaurus; developing documents for mail/merging; and creating and using macros.  A minimum of 35 words per minute is required at the completion of this course.

IMT 105 Introduction to Microcomputers

This course provides a comprehensive study of the basic skills needed to manage, maintain and operate microcomputer hardware and software.  The majority of the course includes an overview to a graphical user interface and an integrated software applications package, including information management programs such as word processing, electronic spreadsheets and presentation graphics that will be used to develop practical problem solving skills at the entry level.  Topics include an overview of the components of a microcomputer system; hardware and software; storage devices and media; interpretation of error messages; a computer literate vocabulary and the uses of the computer.

IMT 104 Advanced Word Processing

This course is a continuation of the practice and theory of word processing.  Students will utilize their keyboarding and word processing skills to develop advanced word processing skills and concepts including graphics, working with columns, creating and formatting tables, templates, styles, outlines, indexes and table of contents.  Students will use Microsoft Word, a laser printer and color ink-jet printer throughout the course.  A minimum of 45 words per minute is required at the completion of this course.  Prerequisite(s): IMT-102 or instructor permission.

IMT 115 Desktop Publishing

Students will become knowledgeable in the use of Adobe PageMaker to produce documents which are of professional typesetting quality using a laser printer and a color ink jet printer. Students will work with templates, prepare and use style sheets, import graphics, place text, select fonts and use a scanner in preparing desktop publishing projects.

IMT 206 Application Integration

This course is designed to encompass the major elements of the Microsoft Office Professional Suite.  Each program of the suite is designed to complete specific tasks and has similar buttons and commands to make switching among the programs easy and seamless. The ability to use information across multiple programs makes it possible to share data. Students will learn to integrate information with various programs via various merge capabilities; import and export techniques; linking and embedding objects; hyperlinks; Microsoft Office eServices; collaborative online techniques and web publications. Students will learn to use and integrate Microsoft Office to create a business model and complete a portfolio of work completed throughout their degree program..  Prerequisite(s): IMT-102, IMT 206, IMT-232, IMT-233 or instructor permission.

IMT 207 Using the Internet

This course is designed to be a hands-on learning experience. Its intent is to familiarize students with the Internet as a research tool. Students will learn how to navigate the Internet to find resources and supplements to support both educational and professional research. Students will learn how to create their own web site using Microsoft FrontPage. Prerequisite(s): instructor permission.

IMT 210 Written Business Communications

This course permits the student to participate in the three stages of writing a business communication (planning, writing, and revising) and to produce acceptable examples of their work using the microcomputer as a writing tool.  Students will be involved in improving their ability to think through problems, organize ideas, plan a piece of communication, and write correctly with clarity and conciseness.

IMT 232 Database Management

This course will introduce students to relational database design principles using a step-by-step approach for solving problems.  This is an intensive hands-on course where students will create various types of databases for personal and professional uses.  Emphasis will be placed on developing quality tables, queries, forms, and reports using concepts and techniques found in most database management software.  This course covers all basic skills and techniques, and several advanced topics including varied relationships; various controls and related properties; multiple table queries, parameter queries, and action queries; subform and subreports; integration and sharing of data for import or export; switchboards; as well as developing and programming macros.  Prerequisite(s): instructor permission.

IMT 233 Spreadsheet Applications

The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with electronic spreadsheet development using Microsoft Excel. In this intensive hands-on course, students will create various types of worksheets for personal and professional uses.  Emphasis will be placed on problem solving and developing quality worksheets using concepts and techniques found in most spreadsheet software.  This course covers all basic skills and techniques and several advanced topics including how to design and print graphs and charts; develop worksheets for "what-if", "goal-seek" and "sensitivity" analysis; generate reports; use mathematical, financial, statistical, logical as well as date and time functions; generate reports; use database operations; and develop and use macros  Prerequisite(s): instructor permission.
